I lost $200 on a fake gaming tournament entry fee last weekend

I signed up for this online Street Fighter 6 tournament that promised a $500 prize pool, paid the entry fee through PayPal, and the whole thing got canceled two hours before start with no refunds. The organizer just ghosted everyone and the Discord server got deleted overnight. Has anyone else dealt with tournament scams like this and actually gotten their money back?

Man that sucks, I've been there! I lost $150 on a fake Smash Bros tournament a couple years back. What actually worked for me was filing a dispute through PayPal directly. I explained it was for a service that never happened and the seller ghosted me after canceling. PayPal actually sided with me after like a week and refunded the whole thing. Sometimes they'll ask for screenshots of the canceled event and the Discord deletion, so make sure you grab those if you still have any. Don't let it slide, PayPal is usually pretty good about this stuff.
