I ran the same part program with a 0.001 inch offset on the tool length and then without it. The difference in finish was night and day.

Tool length is everything for a good finish. That tiny offset changes the whole cutting action. Makes total sense what you saw.

But @tylerg30, a sharp tool matters way more than length.
