Lost $80 on a cheap collet chuck that couldn't hold tolerance

Picked up a no-name collet chuck off Amazon for $80 thinking I was saving cash. First job running 304 stainless at 4000 RPM and my runout was over 0.003. Had to stop, re-indicate everything, and the finish was still garbage. Ended up buying a decent Lyndex for $220 the next day. Anyone else have bad luck with budget tooling?

Did you try tightening the nut with a pipe wrench first?

Made the same mistake with a $60 ER32 set. Spent more time fighting chatter than actually cutting metal. Felt real smart when I chunked a carbide endmill into the garbage can.
