Tried a mystery alloy on a job and it wrecked a $300 endmill
Got a rush order from a shop downtown last Tuesday and they handed me what they swore was 6061 aluminum, but it had these weird spark trails when I cut it. Turned out to be some recycled mystery alloy they bought cheap, and it chipped my brand new endmill halfway through the first part. Has anyone else dealt with clients passing off unknown materials that screw up your tooling?

Did your friend ever find out what the mystery metal actually was? I had a buddy get handed "stainless" that turned out to be case-hardened mystery steel, trashed his whole day.
