Unpopular opinion: I thought I knew my Haas VF-2's power draw, but the shop's new meter showed something else.
Our utility company installed a new smart meter last month, and I finally looked at the hourly breakdown online. The spindle load during a heavy steel job was pulling almost 30% more than the machine's spec sheet said it would under those conditions. Has anyone else cross-checked their actual shop power use against the manufacturer's numbers?

Yeah, I mean those spec sheets feel like they're written in a different reality sometimes. I had the same shock with my old Bridgeport, the actual draw during a tough cut was way over what the manual said. Makes you wonder if they test them with no load or something.

Did you see that article about how spec sheets often list the motor's nameplate power, not the actual draw under load? Wren978's Bridgeport story lines up with that. It seems like a common industry thing that can really mess with your shop's power planning.
