Vent: Running coolant through a $20 harbor freight pump vs a $200 grainger pump taught me a hard lesson about duty cycle

The HF pump lasted exactly 3 days before the seals went, but the Grainger one is still going strong after 8 months of daily use, so what cheap alternatives have you guys found that actually hold up?

...but are we really talking about "hard lessons" from a $20 pump? I mean, it's a $20 pump (from Harbor Freight, no less). What did you honestly expect, a lifetime warranty and a handshake? That's like buying a $5 umbrella and being shocked when it flips inside out in a mild breeze. I get that the Grainger one is pricey, but maybe the real lesson is just knowing when to spend a little more for something that's gonna get used every single day. And for what it's worth, I've had a cheap pond pump from Amazon running coolant in my little setup for like 6 months now, no drama, just don't expect it to handle a full industrial shift.

honestly man, i've been down that exact same road haha. the harbor freight specials are great for like a one-off weekend project but they just can't handle continuous use. what i found that works surprisingly well is those small diaphragm pumps from the RV/marine sections, the ones meant for freshwater systems. they're usually around 30-40 bucks and have way better seals than the cheapo transfer pumps. i've got one from a brand called Seaflo that's been running my little parts washer for almost a year now with no issues, just gotta make sure to prime it right and not let it run dry. another thing i learned the hard way is to put a simple inline filter before the pump, keeps the junk from destroying the seals in the first place.
