Showerthought: I thought learning Git was a waste of time for a beginner project.

I was just making a simple text game in Python, so I skipped it. Then my laptop crashed and I lost two days of work. Now I push my code to GitHub after every single feature, even small ones. Anyone else have a 'wish I learned this sooner' moment with a tool?

My friend Sam was building a website for his band. He spent a whole weekend adding their music player and tour dates... then his hard drive just died. All that custom code, gone. He had to start over from a week-old backup. Now he uses version control for everything, even just changing a font color.

Yeah, the "hard drive just died" part hits close. My buddy Mike was writing his thesis and kept everything in one Word doc on his desktop. His computer got a virus, the file got scrambled, and he lost like 30 pages. He had to rewrite a whole chapter from memory. He emails himself drafts every night now.

Ever feel like you and @laurar38's friend share the same ghost story?
