My grandmother's percolator died on a Sunday in Tulsa and I drove 40 minutes for a French press
Back when I got into coffee, my grandmother brewed Folgers in a percolator every morning for 40 years, and I thought that was just how it worked. Last Sunday her old percolator finally gave out mid pot, so I drove 40 minutes across Tulsa to grab a French press at a Target before they closed. I ground the beans too fine that night and clogged the mesh, so the coffee came out gritty and cold by the time I got it right. She took one sip, laughed, and said it tasted like mud but she'd drink it anyway. Now I keep a backup grinder at her place, but I still can't match the smell of that old percolator. Did anyone else's coffee habit start with a family member's terrible brew?
