That broken window AC unit that cost me $300 to fix

My AC unit in my apartment crapped out during a heatwave in Phoenix last July. The repair guy came out and said the compressor was fried, wanted $450 for a new one. I ended up watching like 8 YouTube videos and ordering a $30 capacitor off Amazon, and it fixed it in 10 minutes. Now I wonder how many other easy fixes I've been overcharged for since dropping out of trade school. Anyone else ever fix something simple after a repair guy quoted you crazy money?

Bro for real? $450 for a compressor and it was just a $30 part? That's insane. I hate how they bank on people not knowing anything and just paying up. Glad YouTube saved your wallet.

Isn't it wild how we're conditioned to just accept the price without questioning? It's like they know most people will pay for convenience rather than learn the fix.
