The day my professor told me I'd never make it without a degree
I was in a 9 am marketing lecture at State U, and the professor singled me out after class. He said my project idea was 'uninformed' and that I'd 'regret leaving the system.' That was it for me. I packed my dorm room in Chicago two weeks later and started cold emailing small tech firms. Six months after that, I landed a junior marketing job at a startup paying $45k. They cared about the ads I ran for my uncle's hardware store, not my GPA. Has anyone else had a teacher's harsh words actually push them out the door for good?

Regret leaving the system" is such a loaded thing to say. I had a high school counselor tell me I was setting myself up for a life of "unskilled labor" because I didn't want to apply to a four year school. I mean, it just made me dig my heels in harder. I started working right after graduation and saved up for my first truck. Sometimes that kind of doubt just gives you the push you need to prove them completely wrong.

Wait, they actually said "unskilled labor" to your face? That's wild. Good on you for turning that into fuel.
