Am I the only one who thought variant covers were a scam until last Saturday
I used to skip variant covers every time, figured it was just a cash grab for the same story. Then last Saturday at Heroes in Fresno, a guy next to me said he tracks his variant print runs the way people track baseball cards, and pulled out a book he paid $4 for that now goes for $90. Hearing him talk about print numbers instead of art made me rethink the whole thing. Now I'm wondering if I've been leaving cheap first appearances on the shelf this whole time. Does anyone here actually collect for scarcity instead of the story, or am I overthinking it?
