Just learned something wild about early X-Men sales

I was reading an old interview with Chris Claremont from 1982 and he mentioned the X-Men comic was almost canceled in the 70s because sales were under 100,000 copies. That's crazy to think about now. Did any other major books come that close to getting axed?

I remember hearing that the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic only had a print run of 3,000 copies. It was a black and white book they sold at a con. Now look at it.

My first zine had a print run of twelve. It's still in my mom's garage.

Under 100,000 copies" is still a huge number of comics (like, a whole warehouse). It's not the same as a book actually failing.
