My buddy told me to skip the new #1s and just read the trades
When I got back into comics a couple years ago, my friend Steve, who's been collecting since the 90s, told me to stop buying single issues. He said to just wait for the collected editions, the trade paperbacks, because the stories are written for them now. I ignored him for a full year, spending like $30 a week on floppies. Then I read the 'Dawn of X' trades and realized he was totally right. The whole story flow made way more sense, and I saved a ton of money and shelf space. Anyone else switch to mostly reading trades after trying to keep up with singles?

Honestly, the best part for me is avoiding those agonizing cliffhangers every month. You're spot on, @patriciar49, about actually rereading them too.

Yeah, that "written for the trades" thing is so true now. I made the same switch and my wallet is way happier. Do you find you're more likely to actually reread the stories this way?
