Overheard a librarian rant about people folding comics, now I get it

I was at the main branch downtown last Saturday and this older guy was telling the clerk that he sees kids crease their books down the middle like paperbacks, and it made me realize my own habit of bagging everything in Mylar might be a lost cause anyway. Has anyone else stopped caring about grading condition after seeing how the hobby actually treats physical copies now?

Bagging everything in Mylar isnt about preserving value anymore, its about keeping your own copies clean while you read them. The grading thing went out the window years ago when every key issue got a QR code and a digital version. I still flatten my books flat when I read them, but I also buy beat up reader copies for that. The old librarian has a point about kids being careless, but the hobby itself moved on. Physical copies are for the experience now, not the investment.
