That one Saturday where every customer argued about variant covers
Last weekend I had four people in a row get mad because I wouldn't order the 1:100 incentive variant for a book they saw on eBay. Has anyone else noticed how collecting turned into a stock market thing instead of just reading?

Detroit Comics over here, and I had a customer last Tuesday who argued that the 1:50 ratio meant we could order just 50 copies of any book and get one for free. That's not how the math works, it's 50 copies of that title per variant you get, not 50 total books from any publisher. He kept pointing at his phone showing a listing for $200 and saying we were ripping him off. I tried to explain that Diamond doesn't let us just bulk order 50 random Batman books to get one exclusive cover. He walked out saying he'd report us to the Better Business Bureau, which, you know, isn't really how any of this works either.

You feelin' me on that one. I had a guy come in last month, wanted me to order eight different variants of a Batman issue so he could "complete the set" and flip them. He got mad when I said I couldn't guarantee every cover would arrive without a ding. It's wild how people treat these books like crypto now, not something to actually read. Takes the fun right out of it, if you ask me.
