Safety officer at the Gulf dock told me 'get your hands off that valve until you check the pressure gauge twice' and now I triple check every single connection before I break anything.

I used to just crack it open and hope, but after nearly getting a face full of seawater on a job in Port Fourchon I had to admit that old guy might have saved me from a nasty accident, has anyone else had a simple piece of advice that totally changed your pre-dive routine?

You ever have that one piece of advice that just sticks in your head like a bad song? I still remember my first instructor telling me "if you rush the pre-dive, the water will make you pay for it later." I thought he was being dramatic until I forgot to close a quarter turn on a valve and spent twenty minutes chasing a slow leak while trying to get a job done in Lake Pontchartrain. Now I've got this whole ritual where I run through each connection twice, even if it's just a simple tank swap. It's like that old safety officer knew what he was talking about, even if it sounded annoying at the time.
