Tried an old school trick for clearing mud from my lift bag dump valve

Was doing a pipeline inspection off the coast of Galveston last month and my dump valve kept sticking from silty mud getting in there. My tender suggested I just soak the bag overnight in a bucket of warm water with a little fabric softener instead of taking it apart and scrubbing. Anyone else ever tried this or is there a better way to keep those valves moving clean?

Can't beat that "summer fresh" air leaking from your lift bag.

I remember my first lift bag that leaked like that, it was a rental from a shop in Monterey. I get the nostalgia angle but to me that "fresh" air is just a sign of a bad seal or a leaky valve. Fixing it with a new O-ring costs like two bucks and takes 30 seconds, so why deal with the smell of old wet rubber and bubbles all dive?
