Found an old Windows 95 machine at a garage sale last Sunday

I picked up a Compaq Presario from a guy in my neighborhood for $20. It still had the original Windows 95 install and a 28.8k modem inside. Got it home and spent an hour just watching the startup chime and that old green cursor blink. Made me think about how different basic troubleshooting was back then without the internet in your pocket. Anyone else stumble on old hardware and feel a little lost trying to remember the old fixes?

Oh man, that green cursor really takes me back, and I still remember how loud those old modems screamed.

The 28.8k modem in mine had a US Robotics Sportster that still worked. I spent a whole Saturday trying to get dial-up internet running through NetZero just for the thrill of hearing that screech again. The trick for me was going through Device Manager and making sure the IRQ settings were right, those old machines were picky about sharing resources. Ended up finding a dusty copy of the AOL 3.0 disc in the CD-ROM tray and it actually installed, gave me a solid hour of nostalgia before the free trial expired.
