My neighbor said all my cable ties are a future tech's nightmare

I was finishing a clean build for a client, feeling good about my work. All the cables were bundled tight with black zip ties, nice and neat. My neighbor, who fixes old arcade machines, came over to grab a spare drive. He looked at the case and said, 'Man, you just built a tomb for the next guy. Those ties are a pain to cut out without nicking something.' I argued it looks professional and stops dust from moving wires. He shot back that he'd rather see a little mess with Velcro straps than have to fight plastic and risk cutting a SATA cable. That hit different because I've been that next guy, cursing at a rat's nest of old ties. But I also know clients love that clean look in photos. Where do you stand on zip ties versus reusable straps for client builds?

Honestly, your neighbor's point about cutting them out is totally fair, but charging extra for removal feels like a stretch to me. That's just making a simple task sound scary to bump the bill. The real issue is using way too many ties, or cranking them down so tight they pinch cables. A few well placed ties are fine, and any tech worth their salt should own flush cutters. The problem isn't the tool, it's how some people use it.

My old boss used to charge extra for zip tie removal. That tells you everything.
