Spent a whole Saturday once trying to figure out why my headset wasn't picking up. Turned out I plugged the mic into the wrong jack on the back of the PC. Felt like a real genius staring at the front panel for an hour before I got the bright idea to just check the back. These little hardware snafus make you feel like you belong in the IT crowd but in the sad version where you're the customer. Now I keep my cables labeled with those little bread tie tags like I'm organizing a tackle box.
