Threw $3,000 into a cheap laser level setup before I learned my lesson

Bought a no-name green laser from Amazon for $150 because I didn't want to drop real money. It drifted out of calibration on the second job and I spent 4 hours re-shooting grades for a basement pour. The general super was pissed and made me eat the concrete truck wait time. Ended up buying a used Hilti from a pawn shop for $600 and it's been dead on for 6 months now. Has anyone else lost money gambling on budget layout tools?
