Hit 1,000 employees on our all-staff email list and it made me miss the old days
Last Thursday I was cleaning up our distribution list for the quarterly all-hands recap and the counter hit 1,000 names. I just sat there for a second. When I started doing comms at this company back in 2016 we had maybe 180 people on that list and I knew almost all of them by first name. Now I'm writing for people in three countries and I have no clue who half of them are. The hard part is the tone. What works for the folks in the warehouse in Columbus does not land the same with the sales team in Denver, and I get replies about it. I remember when I could just walk down the hall and ask somebody if a draft sounded weird. Can't do that now. I still write like it's 180 people and I think that is either saving me or hurting me, not sure which. Curious if anyone here has a system for keeping that personal feel once your audience gets past a certain size.
