Question about what a recruiter said on a call I wasn't supposed to hear
I work on the internal comms team at a mid size company in Chicago. Last Tuesday I was setting up a town hall and joined the Zoom room about 10 minutes early by mistake. The recruiter was still on the line with a candidate and said our CEO "only reads the first two sentences of anything longer than a paragraph." I stayed quiet and logged off, but I can't stop thinking about it because we send out these long weekly updates that nobody reads. Our open rate dropped from 62% to 41% in the past year. I pitched a shorter format to my director yesterday and she said "that's just how leadership likes it." Has anyone else dealt with a leader who won't read past the first few lines, and did you change how you write or just keep sending the long versions?
