The comms guy at our Denver office showed me why my press releases kept dying
I was at a media training day in Denver back in March and a reporter on the panel said something that stuck with me. She said she gets about 200 pitches a week and deletes anything where the first line is about the company instead of the reader. I went back and rewrote our next three releases to lead with the problem the customer has, not our product name, and pickups jumped from 2 outlets to 11. Now I keep a sticky note on my monitor that just says "who cares?" to check myself before I hit send. Has anyone else had a reporter tell them point blank what they skip?
