Appreciation post: That moment I realized my sectioning technique was all wrong

I used to just grab random chunks of hair when I was doing highlights, you know, hoping for the best. About 8 months ago at the salon in Austin, my coworker watched me do a foil set and straight up said "you're making this 10 times harder than it needs to be." She showed me how to do clean, even squares starting from the bottom and working up, and now my foils take half the time. Has anyone else had that thing where you thought you were nailing it but someone showed you the right way and suddenly everything clicked?

Wait, you were just grabbing random chunks? Like handfuls of hair and hoping for the best? That honestly sounds like a nightmare to fix if anything went wrong.

Yeah, grabbing random chunks is exactly how you end up with bald spots and panic-calling a pro.
