Unpopular opinion: slow swim sets are where real progress happens
Everyone at my pool is obsessed with sprinting 100s, but my 6 months of ugly 2:30/100m drills got me through my first Olympic in Austin without a panic attack. Speed comes from technique, technique comes from boring repetition. Anyone else find their fastest splits came after months of slow work?
Did you see that study from a few years back about how most age group swimmers drop time in the pool from base work, not all out sets? I read about it on a swimming blog and it totally backs up what you're saying. My own times didn't move until I stopped racing every single lap.
