Finally saw why everyone raves about the LMI boom angle indicator
I've been running a Grove RT for about 7 years now and always thought those digital angle indicators were overpriced gadgets. My buddy at the yard kept telling me to try one out. Last month I had a tight lift near some power lines at a job off Highway 90. I borrowed his LMI unit on a dare basically. First time using it I set my radius within 2 feet of where I needed it and didn't have to re-spot once. I'm probably gonna grab my own next payday. Any of you guys run the older analog ones or is the digital worth the extra 150 bucks?

Yo have you tried the digital ones yet? I was the same way, been running cranes for like 10 years and thought those LMI things were just another thing to break. But then I borrowed one for a lift near some lines and honestly it saved my butt. The digital readout is way more accurate than the old analog ones I used to mess with, especially for tight spots where you gotta be dead on. I ended up buying my own unit after that first job and never looked back.

Yeah the digital ones are a game changer for sure. I remember fighting with those old analog gauges on a tight bridge job a few years back and the needle was bouncing around so much I couldn't tell if I was at 80% or 95% capacity. Switched to a digital LMI after that and it was like going from a flip phone to a smartphone. The accuracy is night and day and the setup time is way faster too since you don't have to calibrate anything manually. For anyone still on the fence just try borrowing one for a job with a sketchy approach angle and you'll be sold pretty quick.
