Used to eyeball my picks - now I measure everything twice

Back in 2019 on a job outside Denver, I guessed a load weight and nearly tipped the whole rig. My foreman screamed at me for ten minutes straight. Now I use a dynamometer every single lift, even for stuff I think I know. Has anyone else had a close call that made them change their whole process?

Ha! Nothing like a good old-fashioned near-death experience to teach you math skills, right? I figure if your foreman's screaming is loud enough to wake up OSHA, it's time to double-check your numbers. My buddy still jokes that I measure twice because my ego can only take so much dented metal.

Buddy of mine did the same thing, folded his boom truck like a taco.
