I was vibing with a spooky story about a haunted espresso machine when a barista leaned over and said 'you know that's just the steam wand acting up right' and now I can't write anything scary without picturing her smirk.

Oh man, I once had a barista critique my ghost story plot like she was my editor and I still haven't recovered.

That barista kinda did you a favor though. Maybe her smirk is just part of the horror now, like the monster was in on the joke the whole time.
