Old way vs new way: how I check my credit reports now

I used to just glance at my Credit Karma score once a month and call it good. Then last April I found a $300 collection from a doctor visit I never knew about. Now I actually pull all three reports from AnnualCreditReport.com every 4 months and read every line. Has anyone else caught errors that way that Credit Karma totally missed?

You used to just glance at your Credit Karma score once a month and call it good." Yep, that was me too. I guess I figured if the number looked okay, the rest of it must be fine. Turns out I was wrong - I found a $150 charge from a cable company I never even had. Now I pull all three reports every few months like you do, just to make sure nothing else snuck in while I wasn't looking. It's a pain, but it beats finding out about stuff when I'm trying to buy a house.

That $150 cable charge is annoying but it sounds like a one-off mistake, not some widespread conspiracy to wreck your credit. I still check my Credit Karma once a month and nothing bad has ever happened to me, so maybe you just got unlucky.
