Had to choose between calling tech support or fixing it myself with a hammer

My register at work kept freezing every 20 minutes during the lunch rush last Tuesday, and I had to pick between waiting on hold with the POS company for who knows how long or just giving it a good smack to reset the loose ribbon cable inside. I went with the hammer approach, and it worked perfectly for the rest of the shift, but now I'm wondering if I just kicked a bigger problem down the road. Has anyone else ever solved a customer service issue by just brute forcing the equipment yourself instead of dealing with the support line?

Honestly, you probably just made it worse and now it'll fail during a slow time instead.

Heard that percussive maintenance is actually a real fix in IT sometimes.
