Chose a hardware firewall over software after my home network got hit

I live in Austin and had a nasty brute force attack on my router last year. Everyone online swore by software firewalls for simplicity, but I went with a $150 Firewalla box instead. It blocked 87 attempted intrusions in the first week alone. Has anyone else had better luck with dedicated hardware versus just running a program on your PC?

Did you check if your ISP's router had UPnP enabled by default?
