My $30 Kijiji table saw actually cut straight for once
Picked up a beat-up 90s Craftsman table saw off Kijiji for 30 bucks back in March. The fence was always off by like 1/8 inch no matter what I did. Spent 4 hours yesterday shimming it with beer can shims and finally got it within 1/64 across a full rip cut. Anyone else ever fix a junk saw with literal trash?

Those beer can shims are a time-honored tradition in my garage. I had an old Delta that came with my house, fence was so far off I used a tape measure and a clamp for six months before I figured out the lock mechanism was just worn smooth. Ended up drilling and tapping a new set screw hole in the bracket. Thirty bucks and four hours of your time is still a win. You learned more about that saw in one afternoon than most people learn in a year of using a brand new one.
