Can we talk about how a $2 bag of limes ruined my guacamole three times in a row?
Overheard a guy at the grocery store say you should pick limes that feel heavy for their size and now I realize I was grabbing dry ones every time, anyone else had a cheap ingredient mess up their whole dish?

And here's the thing nobody talks about - those dry light limes are actually older and have less acid in them, so they don't do a good job keeping the avocado from turning brown. I spent a whole summer buying bags of limes that looked fine on the outside but were basically lime-shaped sponges inside, and my guac would turn gray by the time I set it on the table. Now I give each lime a little squeeze in the store, if it doesn't give at all it's a dud.

Ive bought probably 50 bags of limes over the last year and honestly the heavy for their size thing has never worked for me. I grabbed a bag last month where every single lime felt dense and heavy, cut into them and three out of five were still dry and pithy on the inside. I think people overthink this one, I just squeeze them now, if theyre rock hard or feel like a sponge I put them back, simple as that.
