Spilled coffee on my keyboard at a diner in Cleveland and learned a lesson

I was at this old diner on Euclid Ave last Tuesday, arguing with my buddy about which laptop has the best battery life for under $600. Then I knocked my whole mug over onto my coworker's Dell and it shorted out instantly. Now I always keep a silicone keyboard cover in my bag - any of you guys carry one around just in case?

Leave the keyboard cover at home and start keeping your coffee on the counter behind you instead. I spilled hot tea on my trackpad at a bus station in Pittsburgh and now I always put my drink on a different surface than my laptop, never next to it on the same table. Saved me twice since then when some guy bumped into my table.

Olivia nailed it. I learned this one the hard way at a coffee shop in Austin a few years back. Some kid knocked my table and my latte went straight into my open laptop bag. Ruined a notebook and my cordless mouse. Now I always put my drink on a separate table or counter if I can, or at least on the opposite side of my desk from where my laptop sits. It seems like overkill until it saves your gear. Your method with the counter behind you is solid, I might steal that.
