Spent 45 minutes trying to open a pickle jar this morning

I seriously stood in my kitchen for almost an hour wrestling with a Vlasic pickle jar before I finally gave up and used a butter knife to pry the lid loose. The rubber seal was so tight it felt like it was vacuum welded shut. Why do they make these things so impossible for normal people to open? Has anyone else found a trick that actually works without needing vice grips?

Man, I feel your pain... I've definitely been there with pickle jars. The butter knife trick is usually my go to, but sometimes I run it under hot water for like 30 seconds first. That rubber seal expands just enough to let go without all the grunting.

Just don't use the jar as a stress ball first like me.
