The two day roof patch that turned into a week long nightmare

Got a call for a leak on a flat roof in the old industrial district. Figured it was a simple patch job, maybe four hours tops. Found the leak source quick, but the decking underneath was completely rotted from years of slow water damage. What was supposed to be a half day job turned into a full week of demo, replacing structural supports, and then the actual roofing. Boss wasn't happy about the lost time on other jobs. Anyone else had a 'simple fix' blow up into a huge project that killed your schedule?

Man, that sounds so familiar. It's always the stuff you can't see that gets you. You think you're just slapping on some tar or sealant, and then you're suddenly looking at a full rebuild. That hidden rot is the worst. Your whole week just goes up in smoke, and trying to explain that to someone who just sees the calendar is a nightmare.

That hidden rot @walker.michael mentioned cost me three days last month.

Ugh, that's brutal. I started using a cheap borescope camera on my phone to peek behind walls and under floors before I commit. Found a whole section of wet subfloor last week I would have missed. It saved me a bigger headache later.
