Can we talk about picking between cheap flights with terrible layovers or just paying more
I found a crazy good price on a flight to Japan but it has three long stops and gets in at 2 AM. Part of me says save the money for fun stuff there, but the other part thinks I'll be a wreck and ruin the first day. Would you take the budget nightmare trip or spend more for a direct flight?

I once took a super cheap flight with multiple layovers to save cash. It had two stops over 14 hours and got in late at night. I was so tired that I slept through half my first day there, missing out on plans. The money I saved basically paid for recovery meals and extra coffee. For me, the stress and lost time made it not worth the lower price. Now I look at the total cost, including how I'll feel when I land.

But sometimes that saved cash opens up trips you couldn't afford otherwise. @the_max, your bad experience makes sense, but for some of us, trading comfort for a bigger budget at the destination is the whole point. The money saved on a rough flight can pay for a special meal, an extra tour, or even another night in a hotel. If you're young or on a tight budget, a few hours of discomfort can feel worth it for more real experiences later. It just depends on what you value more, your time en route or your money to spend when you arrive.

Yeah but that extra cash from a cheap flight can mean actually going somewhere instead of staying home.
