Shoutout to that little diner in Clifton that changed my mind about breakfast buffets

I stopped at Mel's Diner off Route 46 last Tuesday on a job, just grabbing coffee. They had this breakfast buffet setup in the back, which I always thought were sketchy after one bad experience with runny eggs years ago. But I saw a truck driver pile his plate high with what looked like actual homemade biscuits and gravy, not that powdered stuff. So I gave it a shot for like $8.50, and honestly those scrambled eggs were fluffy and the bacon was crisp, not sitting in grease. The whole spread was hot and fresh, not that dried out mess you see at chain hotels. It made me realize I'd been judging all buffets based on one bad Denny's from 2018. Has anyone else had a random meal that flipped their whole opinion on a type of food?

Holy crap, Denny's from 2018? That's like holding a grudge against all pizza because you got a bad slice six years ago.

Push back on that a little. I mean yeah, a good buffet can surprise you, but I still think most of them are a gamble you don't need to take. You found a solid one with fresh biscuits and crispy bacon, but that just proves the exception, not the rule. Most places let their scrambled eggs sit under a heat lamp until they turn to rubber, and the gravy congeals after ten minutes. A Denny's from 2018 tells me more than one random Tuesday at a Clifton diner. A few good bites don't wipe out years of bad buffet memories for me.
