Staying at a hotel in Boise, I noticed they used a simple trick to save water.

They had a small sign in the shower asking guests to try a 5-minute timer challenge. It made me think about installing a similar timer at home, but I'm worried it might just annoy my family. Has anyone tried something like this and had it actually work long-term?

Wouldn't that just feel like being nagged at home? I tried a shower timer once and my family hated it, so we gave up after a week. It's hard to make those hotel ideas stick in real life.

Yeah that "nagged at home" feeling is real. @cole_walker26, was the timer a physical thing in the bathroom everyone saw? Maybe the method was the problem. Like, a simple phone alarm for yourself is different than a big plastic gadget on the shower wall. Hotels work because no one's personal space is getting policed. At home, it feels like someone's rules are being forced on you. Gotta be sneaky about it.
