Trying to get a permit for a small sign in Ferndale took me three months

I thought it would be a quick form, but the zoning review got stuck between two departments. One side says the rules are clear and protect the area, the other says they kill small business creativity. Has anyone else had a city permit turn into a marathon?

Ugh, that's the whole system in a nutshell. It's like they forget real people are stuck waiting.

Three months just for a small sign? That's insane. How can two departments in the same city not even agree on their own rules? It feels like they make it hard on purpose, like some kind of test to see if you'll give up. No wonder people get so frustrated trying to do anything.
