My colleague's offhand comment about coworking spaces really got me thinking

Was chatting with a guy at a hostel in Medellin last week who said he only works from coffee shops because coworking spaces 'feel like a second office'. Honestly it hit me because I've been paying $150 a month for a desk I barely use. Anyone else feel like coworking spaces defeat the whole point of being a nomad?

A small correction about Medellin though - coworking spaces there are way cheaper than $150, more like $80-100 for a solid spot lol. The real issue is the vibe though, not the price. Coffee shops have better energy for actual deep work honestly, even if you have to buy a drink every hour.

YES exactly this! I had the same thing in Buenos Aires where coworking was cheap but the coffee shop vibe just hits different for focus. Something about that background noise and having to order a little treat keeps me locked in way better than a quiet sterile office.
