My neighbor said my deck stain job looked like I used a mop
He walked over last Saturday and pointed at the drips and uneven spots... said it was a shame because I used good wood. I was just rushing to beat the rain. So this year, I took two full days, sanded the whole thing back with 80 grit, and used a brush for the edges and a pad for the flats. The difference is huge, no streaks at all. Has anyone else had a simple comment make you redo a whole project the right way?

Read a blog post once that said a bad paint job can drop your home's curb appeal by like 10%. Your neighbor was kind of a jerk about it, but he wasn't wrong. Taking the time to sand and use the right tools makes all the difference. I mean, you see it now with no streaks. That feeling of doing it right has to be way better than just getting it done fast. Good on you for fixing it.

Oh man, you're totally right! I learned this the hard way when I tried to paint a dresser in my garage. I skipped the sanding because I was in a hurry, and let's just say it looked like I painted it with a potato. The finish was so bumpy and awful. That project taught me that prep work is everything, even if it's boring. Doing it right the second time felt amazing, even if my first attempt was a total joke.
