Just realized how much space I was wasting with those flimsy wire shelves
I had those cheap wire shelves from the hardware store in my basement for like 3 years. Finally swapped them out for solid wood shelves I built myself last weekend and I can't believe the difference. The wire shelves left all that dead space between the bars where small stuff would just fall through or get lost. Now I can actually stack bins neatly and use every inch of vertical space. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed how much more stuff fits?

Three years with wire shelves? I would have lost my mind in the first week. Small stuff falling through the cracks is the worst, especially when you're trying to organize bins. Glad you finally got some solid wood in there because that dead space is basically throwing storage away.

I mean, "would have lost my mind" over some wire shelves... that feels a bit dramatic, don't you think @rowanc29? Like yeah, it's annoying when a bottle of spices tips through a crack but it's not exactly a life crisis. I've had wire shelves in my pantry for like four years and honestly I just put a piece of cardboard on top of the lower ones, problem solved for free. The dead space thing is valid I guess, but you can fix that with a few dollar store bins that are the right size. I dunno, maybe I'm just not as particular about my organization, but tearing out a perfectly functional system for wood seems like a lot of work for not that much gain.
