Spent 6 hours trying to clear a jammed cutterhead on the old Marion 7400.
Turns out a piece of old logging chain had wrapped around the main shaft. Anyone have a better way to spot that kind of debris before it gets sucked in?

Ugh, a piece of logging chain sounds like a nightmare. I read something a while back about guys using a cheap USB inspection camera on a flexible cable. I mean, you can poke it into tight spots around the shaft housing before you start up, just to do a quick check. It's not perfect but it might catch bigger junk like that. Seems easier than the six hour fight you just had. Maybe it's just me but I'd try anything after dealing with that.

Wish I had that idea before I started. Would have saved me a whole lot of cussing and skinned knuckles. My usual method is just to bang on stuff and hope for the best. That USB camera trick is actually pretty smart for a quick look. Might have to grab one before the next project. My luck, I'd probably drop it in the bilge anyway.
