That $40 bag of dustless mud cost me more in cleanup than regular stuff

I bought a bucket of that fancy dustless joint compound last month for a basement job in Evanston. Figured it would save me time on sanding and tarping. But man, that stuff is thick and sticky, it clogs up your knife way faster than regular mud. I ended up spending an extra hour just cleaning my tools and mixing it down so I could actually work with it. On top of that, the dust I did get was still bad enough to need a mask. So I basically paid double for the same result. Has anyone else had bad luck with that dustless mud, or did I just get a bad batch?

Has anyone tried using a different kind of knife with it... like a stainless steel one instead of the cheap blue ones? I swear the stainless steel is smoother and the mud doesn't stick nearly as bad. I also notice a huge difference if the mud is cold out of the bucket, I'll let it sit for an hour at room temp and it flows way better. I think a lot of the frustration comes from not treating it like a different product entirely, because you can't use the same habits with it. The batch might be fine but the technique is what kills you...

Nah. That stuff works fine if you thin it right and don't fight it.
