Shoutout to the inspector in Phoenix who called out my grounding method

Honestly, I was doing a service upgrade last month and the inspector said my ground rod clamp was too high on the rod, like 8 inches above grade. He told me it needs to be below the surface to prevent corrosion and be a proper permanent connection. I always thought being visible was fine, but I changed it and buried it properly. Has anyone else had an inspector be really picky about that specific detail?

That's a weird call honestly. The code just says it needs to be flush with or below grade, not buried. A visible clamp is easier to check later.

Maybe he's seen a lot of corrosion issues from exposed clamps in that area. Could be a local thing they're cracking down on.
