Found a weird fix for a flickering monitor that worked for me

Last Tuesday, a customer brought in a gaming monitor that would randomly go black for a second. I checked all the usual stuff, caps and connections, and nothing. On a hunch, I reflowed the solder on the power input jack with my Weller station, even though it looked fine. It's been solid for a week now. Ever had a problem where the fix made no sense but just worked?

My buddy fixed his Xbox by just blowing on the disc tray.

Man, that's a classic. Those tiny cracks in solder joints you can't even see will drive you nuts. Heat and cooling from plugging the power cord in and out over years can do it. Your hunch was spot on. A proper reflow with fresh solder is the only real fix for a dry joint. Why do you think so many old consoles get the same treatment? It just works.

Yeah, the heat and cooling cycle thing is so true! I had an old radio that would cut out until you tapped the case. Drove me crazy until I reflowed the whole board. It's wild how something you can't see just breaks the connection. Makes you respect the old gear that's still kicking after all that.
