My town's shift from fix-it spots to throw-away culture bugs me

I used to have three places within walking distance to get gadgets fixed. Now they're all gone, replaced by fast food joints. It's like people don't even try to repair stuff before buying new. I miss the days when you could learn a trick or two just by chatting with the repair guy. Now everything feels so disposable, and it's a shame for our trade.

Wow, your post made me rethink how quick I am to trash broken things.

Actually, my post was about finding other uses for stuff before tossing it. Like turning an old mug into a pencil holder. It's more about being creative than fixing things.
