Remembering the day a whole box of 90s VCRs showed up at the shop
It was a Tuesday in maybe 2003, and a guy just dropped off a cardboard box with six old Panasonic units, all with different loading issues. I spent the whole afternoon swapping belts and cleaning mode switches, and it was weirdly satisfying to get every single one running again. Do you ever miss working on that kind of straightforward, mechanical fix?

Sounds like a nice way to spend an afternoon, but it's just fixing old machines. It's not like you saved lives or discovered something new. They were just VCRs destined for the trash. The world moved on to DVDs for a reason. Getting them to work again was a solved puzzle, not some grand achievement.

Remember when my buddy fixed his grandma's VCR for her home videos?

Funny how @the_susan sees a solved puzzle. The real puzzle is why people still have tapes they want to watch. That nostalgia isn't trash.
